Kurt has a lot of explaining to do. He lied to us. Now he has to back-pedal and fill us in on what he's been hiding.

Miranda told him she had Barrow-Feld Syndrome. Like a gent, he covered up her embarrassing condition, lying about her location when she was supposedly going for an experimental course of treatment at Cognivia - even when one session coincided with Cymbalisty's death. Of course, Miranda was actually on the Ceretin 6 trial, saving up her tablets before poisoning hapless Isaac.

Kurt only discovered this when he used Miranda's login to look for any extra info on the Cognivia website this afternoon. And as soon as he used her login, Miranda was alerted and tried to get out of town.

He doesn't want her arrested - the police can't entirely be trusted - but he has registered Miranda as a missing person, meaning that any sightings of her on public transport will be reported to him. That should slow her down. And when he catches up with her...

Sentinel news in brief: Shares in Cognivia dropped 7% today on the release of the company's shareholder report. Analysts say that the pharamceutical giant has failed to show any true innovation lately, instead relying on incremental improvements to its existing products or new, niche drugs with very limited potential markets.

Kurt gives his own analysis of the police records regarding Cymbalisty's death. He's particularly suspicious of the 'possible black market Ceretin' found in Cymbalisty's blood. Surely the police would be able to recognise most black market versions?

Having said that, Kurt's still not convinced that this is proof of foul play. Nor does he know how he and Anna can proceed in their investigation.

At least this hiatus gives him more time to go running and hang out with Miranda. (The lad deserves a break.)

The Cube Hunters help Scarlett put two and two together, and she realises that Claire Castille was almost certainly involved in the Cube theft. Scarlett wants to come home, but she wants to make sure Claire trusts her and doesn't feel threatened by her returning to the city. So she'll wait a few days. Allain will be staying with his mother.

In the meantime, Scarlett suggests that the Cube Hunters think of one or two pertinent-but-subtle questions she could ask Claire, while she still can.

Kurt reports back on the big police phone-in. The reason he helped was Anna's mention of the cleaners - if Cymablisty had a cleaner, the public enquiry should have picked that up. It didn't, so he suspected a cover-up.

In some respects, the phone-in was a success. The PXCPD intranet (user: 'volunteeraccess', password: 'gH76s5') was successfully hacked. Cymbalisty's case number is PXC978C675.

But because of the Cube Hunters' carelessness, people got seriously hurt. Kurt is less than impressed.

The plan seems to be for everyone on Earth to call the crime reporting line this evening, during the Roll for Damage gig, and overload the police to the point where they call in the Volunteer Force. This will give all the callers (and Anna's husband, who is a volunteer) emergency access to the police files.

So Kurt does the decent thing and hooks up a link between Earth and the PXCPD volunteer service. The Cube Hunters can phone or email in their hoax calls, with the aim of creating the impression of a city-wide crime wave. They're able to watch their progress live on a map at the Volunteer Access webpage.

When the police are stretched to breaking point, they'll send the volunteers an emergency login and password for their internal file system, giving them access to the dossier covering Cymbalisty's death.

After dropping off the face of the planet for a few weeks, Violet explains the reason for her lack of blogging. Mainly, it's misery. The library is still missing Cymbalisty. Anna misses Cymbalisty too. Violet misses Kurt (now that Miranda's snaffled him), but at least Caine is providing some comfort.

With all this going on, Violet's hardly had the time or inclination to wonder what's on the last page of the Granier diary. The police will be releasing it soon. If she dare look at it.

Anna's frustration with the police is becoming intolerable. They won't tell her anything. Her husband, Fleming, is a member of the police volunteer force, and he has an idea of how to access the police's records. He explains that, when the police are overstretched, they give the volunteers emergency access to their systems - and the next Roll for Damage gig might provide just such an opportunity, if a simultaneous 'crime wave' could be orchestrated.

This strategy, of course, is highly illegal and rather dangerous, so Anna is reluctant to resort to it.
