This pretty much confirms that Cyrus Quinton is 'V'. What's more, it seems that V left this recording as a sick taunt, knowing it would be found. And the message on the Viard CD was a set-up, getting the Cube Hunters to disrupt Helena Frye's raid at Gillit Road.

Kurt and Violet have pooled their knowledge and joined forces. Violet was a little surprised to hear about Kurt's Gillit Road exploits, but she agreed to wheedle some info out of the Hesh employees and succeeded in getting the name of the engineer on the Viard album: Cyrus Quinton.

This is almost certainly the man responsible for putting the secret message on the Viard album. Unfortunately, 'Cyrus Quinton' doesn't seem to exist outside Hesh.

The Cube Hunters are using the Hesh intranet noticeboard to persuade someone to give away the personal filesystem password. It's working... slowly.

The paper suggests that 'an interloper' spoiled a planned police raid on traffickers of contraband. (They don't realise that the interloper was Kurt, and the traffickers were associated with the Third Power.)

He tells her about the Viard CD message - a genuine surprise to her - and offers a recording on his key as evidence. Violet confirms the news of Cymbalisty's death. It sounds like he still had the last page of the diary when he was found dead, at home, at the weekend. Only Anna Heath seems to be mourning his passing with any real feeling. The preliminary verdict is suicide, but Violet can't help being worried - especially with Kurt incommunicado.

He's alive! Kurt gives us an account of his heart-stopping trip to Gillit Road. It wasn't what he'd expected.

For a start, the disused subway station is remarkably clean. Then he overhears a group of people talking about Helena Frye, the police and 'the Third'. And shortly afterwards, he's arrested by a heavily armed squad led by Helena Frye. She claims they were trying to capture the people Kurt had overheard... and he's now in no position to argue.

Sentinel news in brief: the Brotherhood of the Six held the ceremony of the Kindling of the Flame at dusk on Tuesday night, following the light blanket of snow that fell in the early hours that morning. This is the latest the Kindling has been since 224, when the first snowfall was on 7th Feb.

(This is the trigger for Kurt's Gillit Road Rendezvous, now next Tuesday.)

Scarlett spends the festive season going through files she stole from Viendenbourg. They show that Claire Castille was at Viendenbourg until May the previous year - then all records of her come to an end. Allain spots codewords he and his mother used, and is able to piece together a sense that she was scared and in danger. Scarlett resolves to track down Claire.
